The dynamic duo took their next step after receiving an invitation to the exclusive “Sharks of the Pacific” Tennis Championship slated for Oct. 12-19 in New Caledonia.
The talented combo team of Jonny Jackson and Ryunosuke Roesch earned their stripes winning two regional tournaments in the U12 division. The duo first played together, representing Guam as part of the Guam National Tennis Federation team’s participation in the North Pacific Regional Championship in June. The duo dominated the U12 division, playing undefeated their entire run.
With their win, they qualified for the next step, the Pacific Oceania Junior Championships in Fiji held in July.
Jackson, a seventh-grader at St. John’s School, and Roesch, a sixth-grader at DODEA, won the NPRC by battling it out in the the official tennis championships of the Pacific Islands, which featured tennis teams from Vanuatu, Fiji, Guam, CNMI and tennis powerhouses Tahiti, Cook Islands and New Caledonia.
When the dust settled, the duo emerged victorious – the first time a Guam boys team had captured first.
Now, they will take their talents to the next level, the “Requins du Pacifique” – Sharks of the Pacific, set to start Oct. 12.
