Coach Ryan Horn
Director of Tennis, GNTC
With more than 35 years of experience as a player, coach, and tennis industry leader, Ryan K. Horn has built a distinguished career leading world-class tennis programs and developing players of every age and skill level. As Director of the Guam National Tennis Center, Ryan is committed to elevating tennis throughout Guam by creating an environment where recreational players, aspiring juniors, and elite competitors can all thrive.
Prior to joining GNTC, Ryan served as Director of the prestigious John McEnroe Tennis Academy (JMTA), one of the nation’s premier high-performance training centers. His career also includes leadership positions as Director of Bonnie Briar Country Club, Director of Corvuss American Academy, Head Tennis Professional at The Landings Club, and Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach at LaGrange College. Ryan has also coached with Saddlebrook/Hopman Tennis, Southern Tennis Academy, and Nike Tennis Camps, helping develop nationally ranked juniors and collegiate athletes.
Today, Ryan oversees all tennis operations, coaching staff, and player development at GNTC. He directs Guam’s Junior National Team pathway, leads the Tournament Training Programs, and is guiding the Center toward International Tennis Federation (ITF) Regional Training Center Bronze Certification. Known for combining technical excellence with positive leadership, Ryan is passionate about helping every player reach their potential while continuing to position Guam as a premier destination for tennis in the Pacific.

Coach Christian Penafiel
With more than two decades of competitive playing and coaching experience, Coach Christian Penafiel has established himself as one of Guam’s premier tennis professionals. Beginning tennis at the age of four, he developed into Guam’s top-ranked junior player in the 12U, 14U, and 18U divisions. His playing career included representing Guam at the Pacific Oceania Junior Championships, competing as a member of the Guam Davis Cup Team, and serving as captain of the Lyceum of the Philippines University Tennis Team.
Today, Christian brings that international playing experience to the Guam National Tennis Center, coaching players from first-time beginners to Guam’s top national team athletes. He has coached Guam’s Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup, Junior Davis Cup, Junior Billie Jean King Cup, ITF World Boys, and Guam U14 ITF Boys teams, while also serving as assistant coach for the Guam Junior National Team at the North Pacific Regional Championships and Pacific Oceania Junior Championships. His expertise earned him selection as a traveling coach for the ITF Touring Team.
Christian holds internationally recognized certifications in ITF Play and Stay, ITF Level 1 Coaching, and UPT High Performance Coaching. Through private lessons, group clinics, tournament training, and social tennis programs, he is dedicated to helping every player build confidence, improve their skills, and develop a lifelong love for the game.
Coach Shaun Kawika O'Neal
Coach Shaun Kawika O’Neal brings more than 20 years of coaching experience and a passion for developing confident, well-rounded athletes. Known for his energetic teaching style and ability to connect with players of all ages, Shaun creates a positive environment where learning, improvement, and enjoyment go hand in hand.
Throughout his career, Shaun has provided more than 500 hours of private instruction to junior and adult players, combining technical fundamentals, biomechanics, and match strategy to help every athlete reach their goals. A dedicated program builder, he founded the Mona Shores Middle School Tennis Program before serving as Head Coach of the Mona Shores Varsity and Junior Varsity Tennis Programs, where he guided player development, practice planning, and competitive match preparation.
In addition to tennis, Shaun currently serves as Head Coach of the Tumon Typhoons U17 Soccer Club through the Guam Football Association. His multi-sport coaching experience, along with CPR/First Aid and SafeSport certifications, reflects his commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and athlete-centered environment.
At the Guam National Tennis Center, Shaun enjoys working with juniors, adults, and recreational players through private lessons, group clinics, and player development programs. Whether introducing someone to tennis for the first time or helping experienced competitors refine their skills, Shaun is committed to building strong fundamentals, confident athletes, and a lifelong passion for the sport.
