World Tennis
World Tennis (formerly known as the International Tennis Federation, or ITF) is the global governing body of tennis. The World Tennis organization’s responsibilities include:
- Rules and Regulations: It upholds the official rules of tennis, oversees officiating, and monitors equipment technology.
- Major Tournaments: It owns and operates the Davis Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup, which are the men’s and women’s world cups of tennis. It also runs the tennis events at the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
- The World Tennis Tour: It organizes entry-level professional circuits (men’s and women’s) and junior tours that serve as the primary pathway to the elite ATP and WTA professional rankings.
- World Tennis Number (WTN): It provides a global rating system on a 40-to-1 scale for players of all ages, genders, and skill levels (from beginner to elite pro).
